Nick Grimshaw’s musical TV mission

Nick Grimshaw’s "mission" is to make a music TV programme.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ is working hard to develop a new show which he hopes will be a follow-up to ‘Top of the Pops’ – the long-running chart show, which was axed in 2006 after over 40 years on screen – as he thinks the UK "needs" a mainstream pop series.
He told The Sun newspaper: I’m writing a show with my friend Aimee. We’ve just started writing it. We’re in talks to do a show.
"It’s a music show, it’ll be a show getting music on television.
"It’s what we need so I’m going to make it happen. It’s my mission."
Last year, BBC director of music Bob Shennan said he wanted to relaunch ‘Top of the Pops’ – which was typically fronted by Radio 1 DJs – but no progress was seemingly made on the plan.
Meanwhile, despite quitting ‘The X Factor’ judging panel after just one series, Nick, 31, is still interested in the talent show and is pleased show boss Simon Cowell is believed to be bringing back another former judge, outspoken star Sharon Osbourne.
He said: "I love Sharon, I think she’s made for reality television.
"I liked Gary Barlow because he was grumpy. But Sharon is my favourite."
With his music show and Radio 1 job, Nick – who previously turned down the chance to host a revamped version of ‘TFI Friday’ – has a busy time ahead, but his name is still in the frame for other high-profile jobs.
Ant and Dec recently tipped him to follow in their footsteps as host of the BRIT Awards, insisting they have no desire to return for a third year in a row in 2017.
Ant said: "Nick would do a really good job. He talks to music guests all the time and he is mates with them.
"He would be really good at it."
