Tom Odell got a cat and did washing up for ‘normality’

Tom Odell cleans toilets to keep him level-headed.
After the release of his debut album ‘Long Way Down’ in 2013 and the meteoric rise, which saw Tom win both an Ivor Novello and BRIT Award, the hefty touring schedule took its toll on the singer but he thought the best way to stay "down to earth" was by taking time out to do boring tasks.
Talking about the last three years, the 25-year-old pop star recalled: "After touring, it was important for me to stop and just have a bit of normality for a while. My life was nothing like Beyoncé or that kind of fame.
"It was just being away constantly. We did so many shows, more than 300, and constantly living out of a suitcase you never make your own food. It was important to stop.
"So I got a cat, did a bit of washing up and cleaned a few toilets. That keeps you down to earth."
After a short hiatus, the hunky singer-songwriter started working on the songs for his forthcoming sophomore record ‘Wrong Crowd’, but admits he’s always felt like an "outsider."
He told The Sun newspaper: "The closer to the album being released, the more I realise it is almost denial that it is not about, it totally is.
"It’s an album that is dramatised. I am very inspired by cinema and my lyrics are overly dramatic at times. I’m still trying to work out who the wrong crowd are.
"I always feel like an outsider. Everywhere I go. I always feel I don’t belong there. I think a songwriter needs to look inwards through the frosty glass."
‘Wrong Crowd’ is released on June 10 and Tom will be heading out on a UK tour in support of the record kicking off on June 23 in Kingston.
Tickets go on sale on Friday (27.05.16).

Tom Odell’s UK tour dates:

June 23, KINGSTON, New Slang
November 01, DUBLIN, Olympia
