Suranne Jones was followed by Doctor Foster fans

Suranne Jones knew ‘Doctor Foster’ was a hit when fans started "stalking" her.
The 37-year-old actress portrays Gemma Foster in the BBC One drama, a doctor who is left heartbroken and intent on revenge after she discovers her husband Simon Foster (Bertie Carvel) has been having an affair with a younger woman.
When she first accepted the role, Suranne was unsure if audiences would be drawn to a show based solely around a man’s infidelity but by the third episode she was being followed down the street by fans and she knew the 2015 series was popular.
The brunette beauty – who welcomed a little boy with husband Laurence Akers into the world in March – said: "I didn’t know whether audiences would come to a drama about affairs, I thought it may be a niche programme that people wouldn’t get behind, but they did. It was a slow burner but by episode three people were stalking me around the street! I’m so rubbish with technology so my husband had to tell me about (the reaction on) Twitter and then I started to think, ‘Wow, this is something big.’ "
‘Doctor Foster’ has been commissioned for a second series, which sees Mike Bartlett return to write the episodes with shooting due to start in September.
Suranne is excited at the prospect of tackling what happens in the aftermath of the divorce between Gemma and Simon and the effect it has on their friends and family, including their son Tom – played by young Tom Taylor.
Asked what to expect from series two, she told OK! magazine: "Mike always wanted to write the aftermath of a divorce, which is never shown on TV. People break up, have a divorce and that’s the end of the show, but now we get to look at what actually happens when two people have to live with each other and parent a child."
Despite the first instalment getting rave reviews, she was sceptical about agreeing to another batch of episodes.
Speaking about series two earlier this month after she picked up the Best Actress prize for the role at the TV BAFTAs, she said: "I’ve read episode one and I’m due two and three. At first I didn’t know whether there should be a series two but then I wanted to look at the aftermath of a divorce as I don’t think there’s been any of that on TV."
