Russell Crowe: Mummy reboot will be seriously scary

Russell Crowe has promised ‘The Mummy’ reboot will "scare the s**t out of" fans.
The 52-year-old actor has confirmed he will play Dr. Henry Jekyll opposite Tom Cruise as Navy Seal Tyler Colt in the new Universal Pictures movie and Crowe insists it will be much more terrifying than the 1999 film and its sequels.
He said: "I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna play Dr. Henry Jekyll, Fellow of the Royal Society. It’s very interesting, what they’re gonna do with that stuff. This film is designed to seriously scare the s**t out of you."
And Crowe can’t wait to work with Cruise, 53, and director Alex Kurtzman.
He told Collider.com: "I’ve known Tom Cruise since 1992, or something like that. When he was married to an Australian, I was really good friends with him. But when he got divorced, I was part of the settlement package, and I went to Nicole (Kidman).
"Alex really understands the world and he’s been around a long time, on a lot of big projects. He knows how to get something from an idea on the page onto a sound stage and into a camera. How they’ve pulled all of this stuff forward into a contemporary world and how they’re building it out from there, and how all of the different characters interweave into each other’s stories, it’s fantastic."
Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll is the fictional scientist from Robert Louis Stevenson’s 19th century novella ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ who invents a serum that turns him into a depraved and hideous man known as Mr. Hyde.
The new ‘Mummy’ story follows Tyler’s mission in the Iraqi desert to find a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker, but he soon finds they are nothing more than some grave robbers who have all magically died upon entering a mysterious bunker.
Tyler and his team realise the bunker is actually a centuries old tomb and mayhem erupts as all the Navy Seal members start turning on one another.
After making his way deep within the tomb, Tyler discovers a black iron sarcophagus marked with Egyptian symbols and is compelled to open the sarcophagus and release the mummy and curse contained inside.
