Top Gear gets spin-off show

‘Top Gear’ is set to get its own behind-the-scenes spin-off.
The revamped motoring show will get an online-only sister programme called ‘Extra Gear’, which will be hosted by Rory Reid, when it makes its eager returns to screens next month.
The spin-off, which will be filmed each week at the studio immediately after the main show, will give fans 30 minutes of exclusive footage, interviews, specially recorded films, and a sneak peek into what goes on when the cameras stop rolling.
Rory said: "’Top Gear’ fans are some of the keenest in the world and with this show I’m giving them a chance to really get a peek behind the curtain.
"I’m looking forward to showing them how the show is made and what goes on behind the scenes, giving viewers a different perspective on some of the coolest cars on the planet."
The motoring series was originally set to hit screens on May 8 but the air date has now been pushed back by two weeks to avoid clashing with ITV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
A source said recently: "They’ve [bosses] pulled a sharp handbrake turn. ‘Top Gear’ is already under intense scrutiny. They don’t want to launch against ITV’s most popular show."
But the screen date isn’t the only thing to change, as it has also been announced the number of episodes in the first series has been cut from eight to just six.
‘Top Gear’ – which will debut with its largest presenting line-up ever, with Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc, Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris, Eddie Jordan and Rory – will air on May 22.
