Nile Rodgers: I feel braggadocious about my songs

Nile Rodgers feels "braggadocious" when he talks about the stars he has worked with.
The Chic legend has recorded and performed with some of the biggest names in the history of music including Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Madonna, Duran Duran, Sam Smith, Disclosure, Diana Ross and the late David Bowie and Prince.
Nile loves talking about his life as musician but accepts he can sound boastful when he starts reeling off the superstars he has collaborated with – but he doesn’t mean to, he is just proud of his work.
The 63-year-old star told BANG Showbiz: "Man, don’t even start on the list. I sometimes feel unconformable with the list – it’s like braggadocious, give me a break already! But I love recording songs. Music just pops into my head."
Nile recently worked with Laura Mvula on her song ‘Overcome’ – which will feature on her second album ‘The Dreaming Room’ – and the ‘Le Freak’ hitmaker says working with the 30-year-old British singer in the studio was a "magical" experience because they had a great connection.
He explained: "I’d heard about Laura Mvula and her music and we got to meet each other face-to-face and the vibe took over and then something special and magical happened and takes over. Then you make music together and hopefully it’s wonderful and people experience it and think the same. Certainly Laura and I think it’s amazing."
Nile has been close friends with former The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr for several years and the pair have played together live many times.
Nile belies it is inevitable that he and Johnny – who loves Chic and Nile’s music so much that he named his son after his idol – will record a track together.
He said: "Johnny is like my brother so there’s always the possibility of us doing something. It’s gonna happen at some point, you know that!"
This June, Nile is bringing his FOLD Festival to London.
He will curate the event which will see performances from artists such as Beck, John Newman, Alison Moyet, Angie Stone, Grace Labrinth and his own band Chic perform at Fulham Palace in South London, the weekend of June 24 to 26.
