Line of Duty’s Keeley Hawes glad she was killed off

‘Line of Duty’s Keeley Hawes didn’t know she was to going to be killed off – but is glad she was because she didn’t want to return anyway.
The 40-year-old actress’ alter-ego DI Lindsay Denton, who she has portrayed for two series, was dramatically shot dead by Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan (Craig Parkinson) in last night’s (21.04.16) episode but she has admitted, although she didn’t know her fate until she was handed the script earlier this year, she’s thrilled she was written out ahead of the fourth series.
She explained: "It was really unexpected. It is a really good ending and I knew I didn’t want to come back for anymore and I don’t think that was ever a conversation even about me becoming a return character, you don’t want to. If you are going to come back there has to be a great reason. Nobody prepared me for it and I ended up covered in blood."
Keeley – who nabbed a BAFTA nomination for her police role last year – made a shocking return to the detective drama in the middle of series three after fans presumed her sneaky alter-ego was gone for good when she was sent to prison at the end of the second installment.
Speaking of her return, the brunette beauty told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I couldn’t say anything at events so I look like a crazy liar when people asked me about the show. It was a great surprise … It was very flattering and nice but certainly unexpected and a shock to be asked back."
