Queen Elizabeth approves new children’s book

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has approved the publication of a new children’s book to mark her 90th birthday.
‘The Birthday Crown’, a tale by Davide Cali with illustrations from Kate Slater, tells the story about the monarch’s efforts to find the perfect headgear to wear on her special day and will be released in hardback by the Royal Collection Trust on April 12.
Jacky Colliss Harvey, publisher at the trust, said: "We hope that children and adults alike will enjoy Davide Cali’s charming story about a very special birthday, brought to life through Kate Slater’s highly original collage illustrations."
The book tells the tale of birthday preparations for a familiar-looking – but not identifiable – queen whose Buckingham Palace courtiers are asked to come up with the right crown for her birthday, with suggestions including a fruit headpiece and bird cage, a disco ball and a carousel-shaped crown.
But the queen’s young grandson comes up with the perfect choice – a paper crown he has made himself.
But it is the Queen’s grandson, a small child, who comes up with the ideal choice – a paper crown he has made himself.
The books will be sold in its shops and online at £9.95 and at £12.95 through other bookshops.
The Queen turns 90 on April 21 – nine days after the book’s publication.
