Zayn Malik: I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder

Zayn Malik doesn’t want to be a "one-hit wonder".
The 23-year-old singer feels he needs to work hard to ensure his solo career has longevity and admits there is a lot of "pressure" on him to succeed.
Asked if he was relieved when lead single ‘Pillowtalk’, from his forthcoming debut LP ‘Mind of Mine’ did well, he said: "There was a lot of built-up anxiety to create this thing. You don’t really know what’s going to happen. So when that song went out, and I saw the reaction from the fans, that took a little weight off me for a bit. Obviously, there’s still a lot of pressure. I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder, so I’ve got a lot of work to do."
The former One Direction star sifted through a lot of personal experiences to write the record – which will be released on March 25 – and for a lot of the songs he had to think really hard about how it would get perceived by his fans, which made the recording process feel like it took longer than it did.
He explained to Complex magazine: "The whole process behind the album was short, but it felt like forever. I wrote all kinds of personal stuff. When I thought about the way that it sounded to me, it sounded great, and I listened to it over and over again. Then I went to a transitional phase where I realised, ‘S**t. Everybody else is going to listen to this as well’. So I had to think about it from that perspective."
