Ellie Goulding never used to be able to trust her boyfriends.
The ‘Burn’ hitmaker admits she had insecurities when it came to dating the opposite sex because she feared they would abandon her, like her father did when she was a youngster.
She is quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying: "I did find it hard to trust people when my dad left. Particularly men.
"I have got over that now but I thought if I had a boyfriend I would wonder why they were being so nice to me."
The 27-year-old singer, who grew up on a council estate in Hertfordshire with her brother and two sisters, could never understand why her dad walked out on her, but insists she isn’t interested in finding out any more.
She explained: "We used to see each other every other weekend and then once a month, and then never.
"When I first stopped seeing him I can’t remember why and it has been too long now. I don’t know what he’s like now."
The blonde beauty recorded her heartbreak and anger in a diary when she was younger, which she then translated into lyrics when she developed a passion for music.
She said: "I used to be angry and bitter. I did not think he cared.
"But I became peaceful with it. If I spent the rest of my life being bitter I would never get on with anything.
"Song writing is a form of therapy, I think."
