A London underground line has been named after Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.
The 89-year-old royal has lent her name to the Crossrail line, which links Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Essex to London, and is due to open in December 2018.
And the Queen was also invited to visit the construction site at Bond Street where she met with London Mayor Boris Johnson and presented workers with a plaque to mark the occasion.
Mr Johnson said: "Crossrail is already proving a huge success for the UK economy and, as we move closer to bringing this transformative new railway into service, I think it’s truly wonderful that such a significant line for our capital will carry such a significant name from our country.
"As well as radically improving travel right across our city, the Elizabeth line will provide a lasting tribute to our longest-serving monarch."
Whilst London’s Transport Commissioner Mike Brown added to the Mail Online: "In running this important new railway we will ensure that it serves as a fitting tribute to Her Majesty the Queen."
The Queen attended the event yesterday (23.02.16) in a lilac coat, accessorising with a matching purple hat.
