Kendrick Lamar to induct NWA into Hall of Fame

Kendrick Lamar will induct hip hop crew N.W.A. into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The ceremony is set to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 8, where the ‘Compton’ rapper will honour the surviving N.W.A members; Ice Cube, MC Ren, Yella and Dr. Dre.

Speaking in December when the list of inductees was announced Ice Cube, 42, said it shows people "understand what the group did and what it means to modern music".

He said: "It’s hard to sum up exactly what it means. It means a lot of things. It means that the group’s mark is kind of solidified. It’s all legitimised in a way because the whole music industry has to honour the group in a way … It’s everything that kind of eluded us in a lot of ways when we were coming up. So many people were opinionated about N.W.A. I think everyone now at this point, no matter how you feel about us, understands what the group actually did and what it means to modern music."

The ‘You Can Do It’ hitmaker thinks late N.W.A member Eazy E – who died in March 1995 – will be thrilled with the recognition.

He said: "I think he’d be real excited because he was always fighting for legitimacy, whether it was trying to get out of the dope gang and become a legitimate, productive person in society."

As well as N.W.A., this year will also see Cheap Trick – who will be inducted by Kid Rock – Chicago, Deep Purple and Steve Miller added to the Hall of Fame.
