Oli Sykes trashes Coldplay’s table at NME Awards

Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes trashed Coldplay’s table at the NME Awards so they could witness their music "as close as possible".

Frontman Oli Sykes decided to jump on top of the ‘Paradise’ hitmakers table at the bash last night (17.02.16) during their rendition of ‘Happy Song’ at the O2 Academy in Brixton, London, and he did it so Chris Martin and co could get the full Bring Me The Horizon experience.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he said: "We were aiming for Yoko Ono! No, not really. Did it look intentional? It wasn’t. He said he wanted to hear us so I brought it as close as possible. My sound just wasn’t right that’s why I went onto Chris Martin’s table … it wasn’t a dirty protest."

As he rocked out, Oli kicked over glasses and bottles with Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland moving out of the way to avoid the spillages.

The Sheffield rockers – who picked up the Innovation Award on the night – admitted they were determined to make an unforgettable "impression" with their NME Awards debut performance.

He said: "You know when you know nobody is going to care about your band if you just do what you usually do. It was one of those things when you are like you are going to have to make an impression somehow."

And on picking up the Innovation prize, he added: "It’s cool for us because we usually just get Kerrang! Awards, which is also good but obviously people like us in that scene."

Speaking after Oli’s table invasion, Chris insisted he enjoyed Bring Me The Horizon’s performance, and described it as "very rock ‘n’ roll".
