Britain’s Duke of Edinburgh is reportedly pleased that his favourite ale is going back on sale.
The 94-year-old royal is said to be thrilled that Carlsberg UK have decided to pay tribute to the Double Diamond ale after production of the original drink was ceased in the 1990s.
In a letter to the brewery, private secretary Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell wrote: "It was very nice of you to suggest that Prince Philip might like to try Dual Diamond beer … May I suggest that you arrange for the beer to be sent to Buckingham Palace, informing us of the courier details and date of delivery and we will make the necessary arrangements from this end."
Prince Philip – who is married to Queen Elizabeth – was also sent a copy of a book of Double Diamond recipes.
Author Ian Webster told the Daily Express newspaper: "A finished copy of the book was sent to Prince Philip and I offered him some of the Dual Diamond as we’ve decided to do a limited number of bottles. Unsurprisingly, he said yes. It’s not every day you get to buy royalty a beer."
Meanwhile, for Prince Philip’s son, the Prince of Wales, alcohol plays an important part in the running of his car as it was previously revealed he uses ethanol made from surplus wine to power his Aston Martin.
