Jack Garratt tops BBC’s Sound of 2016 list

Jack Garratt has topped the BBC’s Sound of 2016 list.

The singer is "unbelievably, overwhelmingly grateful" after being awarded the prize, which highlights music’s most exciting new artists.

He said: "Winning the BBC Music Sound of 2016 poll has left me feeling pretty stunned at the end of one of the most emotionally and physically intense years of my life.

"I cannot thank the BBC enough for their continued support, and everyone who voted for me. Every other name on the list is unbelievably talented, and I hope this year will be a great one for all of us."

Jack, 24, beat off strong competition from runners-up Alessia Cara, Nao, Blossoms, and Wstrn.

Previous winners include Years and Years, Adele, Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding.

Jack – who also won the 2016 BRITs 2016 Critics’ Choice Award and the BBC Introducing Artist of the Year Award in 2015 – has quipped that he will store his growing number of awards in his bathroom so that his friends can have fun making up their own acceptance speeches in front of the mirror.

Asked where he’ll keep the gongs, the solo artist previously told BANG Showbiz: "I’m going to keep all of them in my bathroom at home in Chicago just because I want people to go in the bathroom and see all the awards and they can have an acceptance speech on their own in the bathroom."
