Motörhead’s Ace of Spades set for UK number one

Motörhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’ is rocketing to number one on the UK singles chart as a tribute to late frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

The rockers’ 1980 song is on a course to knock Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ off of the top spot, as fans have been downloading and streaming the track in their droves following the sudden passing of Lemmy, who died aged 70 on December 28 after a short battle with an "extremely aggressive cancer".

Lemmy was informed on December 26 that he had the disease and following the news of his death just two days later, the track surged 94 places into the ninth spot midweek in the singles charts, according to the Official Charts Company.

‘Ace of Spades’ was first released in 1980 and reached the number 15 spot on the chart in Britain upon its release.

It then re-entered the singles chart 22 years ago after Motörhead performed the song on an episode of UK sitcom ‘The Young Ones’ entitled ‘Bambi’ in May 1984.

‘Sorry’ hitmaker Justin is currently dominating the top five spots in the singles chart, with three of his songs featuring in positions number one, two and four respectively, while Adele’s ‘Hello’ is in third position and Australian singer Grace is in fifth place with ‘You Don’t Own Me’.
