Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn perform at Paul Simonon’s birthday bash

Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn performed together at Clash bassist Paul Simonon’s 60th birthday celebration on Sunday (13.12.15).

The Blur frontman and former Oasis star once again showed they have become firm friends since putting their 90s Britpop rivalry behind them by coming together along with Paul – who reaches the landmark age on Tuesday (15.12.15) – and Chrissie Hynde to form a super-group at the gig in London.

As well as guitar duties Noel took on vocals for Gorillaz track ‘DARE’, while Chrissie was lead singer on Clash classics ‘I Fought The Law’, ‘Brand New Cadillac’ and ‘Janie Jones’.

Rapper Kano also took to the stage at one point to perform another of Damon’s Gorillaz tunes, ‘Clint Eastwood’.

Paul was in the band The Good, the Bad & the Queen with Damon and also featured on some Gorillaz songs.

Other guests in attendance included Beatles star Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey – who plays drums in The Who and formerly Oasis – and Gorillaz collaborator Jeff Wootton, who played bass in Noel’s brother Liam Gallagher’s band Beady Eye.

This is not the first time Noel and Damon have played together.

In March 2013, the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmaker joined Blur’s Graham Coxon, Damon and fellow Britpop icon Paul Weller on stage at a Teenage Cancer Trust charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

And in recent years the former rivals have been very gracious about one another

Speaking about Noel, Damon previously said: "I still see Noel from time to time. We text a bit … I can imagine [a collaboration] being a very distinct possibility at some point in the future. But, as yet we haven’t really talked about it … OK we have a little bit."

And Noel had plenty of praise for Blur’s latest LP ‘The Magic Whip’.

He said of the album: "I like the tracks ‘Lonesome Street’ and ‘Ong Ong’ … Very good."
