Britain’s Queen Elizabeth’s Malta welcoming ceremony changed

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth’s welcoming ceremony in Malta has been plagued by bad weather.

The organisers have been forced to move the spectacular ceremony – which marks the beginning of the 89-year-old royal and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to the southern European country – to San Anton Palace because rain has been forecasted, the British High Commission has said.

The event was originally expected to take place in Palace Square in Valletta and whilst the public will now miss out on this occasion, the High Commission has insisted there will be plenty of times to catch a glimpse of the British royals, particularly when she crosses the estuary in a traditional Maltese boat on Saturday (28.11.15).

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are expected to arrive slightly ahead of the Queen and Prince Philip, who will touch down in Malta at around 3.25pm this afternoon (26.11.15).

For today’s activities, the Queen will meet President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca in San Anton and will be asked to inspect the Guard of Honour of the Armed Forces of Malta, whilst tonight (26.11.15), she will attend a state reception.

The Queen is travelling to Malta for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
