Pharrell Williams’ 44k Grammy hat

Pharrell Williams’ hat from the Grammy Awards sold for $44,100.

The ‘Happy’ singer auctioned off the striking headwear – a bold Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat, which became a talking point at the music ceremony last month – to benefit his teen charity One Hand to Another, and it was snapped up by fast food chain Arby’s.

After the auction had closed yesterday (02.03.14), Pharrell wrote on Twitter: "Thank you to whoever bought my Grammy hat on @eBay for $44,100. Your donation benefits From One Hand to Another. (sic)"

Arby’s – whose corporate logo is a 10-gallon hat, bearing a strong resemblance to the one sported by the singer – jokingly tweeted back: "You’re welcome. We’re HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back. Good luck at the #Oscars tonight! (sic)"

Pharell played along with the chain, famous for its roast beef sandwiches, writing back: "What a pleasant surprise. Thank you @Arbys, our roast beef is now officially well done. (sic)"

Pharrell then sported another hat in the same style as he performed ‘Happy’ at the Oscars last night, but many people were more surprised by the suit he wore as he arrived, as it included shorts – although he defended himself, saying they were designer.

He said: "I can’t take the credit for it. It’s Lanvin! It’s a whole Lanvin suit."
