Gwen Stefani’s new LP is a ‘break-up record’

Gwen Stefani’s new album is a "break-up record".

The 46-year-old singer – who is currently divorcing her husband Gavin Rossdale after 13 years of marriage – is putting the finishing touches to her third studio album which she admitted has been influenced by the heartbreak she’s faced while splitting from the father of her three children.

The ‘What You Waiting For?’ hitmaker confessed the new album and lead single ‘Used To Love You’ are especially pertinent as they are being released two decades after her band No Doubt’s third album ‘Tragic Kingdom’, which was inspired by the end of her seven-year relationship with the band’s bassist Tony Kanal.

Speaking about ‘Used To Love You’, she said: "I didn’t even know the single was coming out. I promise you that it was very last-minute. It’s weird because ‘Used to Love You’ came out the exact same week as the 20-year anniversary of [No Doubt’s] ‘Tragic Kingdom’, which just to me is like, ‘What are the chances of that?’

"I would consider it a break-up record. Both of them were. It’s like the two people I … I only had two boyfriends. I wrote two records about them. You know what I mean? It’s just weird.

"It just makes me believe in God and my journey. My cross to bear was to go through these heartbreaks and write these songs and help people."

And despite the emotional nature of her new single she insisted she feels "honoured" to be able to release it.

She told San Diego’s 93.3 radio station: "My truth is ‘Used to Love You’. That’s the song. That’s what I said, and I feel really fine about sharing that, and I feel honoured to share it."
