Gorillaz to take up whole of 2016 for Damon Albarn

Jamie Hewlett has promised "2016 is going to be Gorillaz all year".

The comic creator has revealed he’s once again teamed up with his collaborator Damon Albarn to revive the virtual band with the intention of releasing new music next year.

He confirmed: "We’re doing Gorillaz next year.

"Damon has started making some music around all his other projects. I’m working on it at the moment and 2016 is going to be Gorillaz all year.

"He’s quite prolific, Damon – I don’t think it will be long!"

Jamie – who is co-creator of the comic ‘Tank Girl’ – originally teamed up with the Blur frontman for the eponymous 2001 album but they haven’t released anything together since their fourth album ‘The Fall’ in 2011.

The band is well known for the four animated characters 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs, and Jamie hinted they could look drastically different when they make their comeback in 2016.

Speaking about the visual aspect, he told NME.com: "It’s going to change – I can’t tell you how.

"But of course it’s going to be different, I can’t do what I’ve already done, that’s not interesting to me. In the same way Damon changes with his music and moves forward, I do the same. It’s going to be a different look."
