Sherrie Hewson chose to keep quiet about her cancer scare for financial reasons.
The 65-year-old actress recently revealed she entered the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ House thinking she may have cancer, but she opted to keep quiet for the benefit of her family.
She shared: "It has been a terrifying time and although nobody knew, I never stopped thinking about my scare in the house, even though I was too scared to talk about it.
"I figured that if I did have cancer, I wouldn’t be able to work and look after my family, so I took the risk."
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star admitted her decision was "stupid", even though the lump turned out to be a cyst, and has urged people to get themselves checked out if they notice any abnormalities with their bodies.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "I did something very stupid and dangerous and I want to say, ‘Please, don’t follow me. Go to the doctor without hesitation. Let somebody examine you’.
"It’s so frightening and I was terrified but you can’t put your head in the sand. Learn a lesson from me and tell somebody."
