Britain’s Queen Elizabeth was in "fabulous form" as she met soldiers from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards on a visit to the regiment’s new barracks in Fife in Scotland on Monday (28.09.15).
The 89-year-old monarch, who is Colonel-in-Chief of the unit, travelled by helicopter from her Scottish estate Balmoral to visit with the regiment.
A source told PEOPLE that the queen was in "fabulous form" as she carried out the engagement.
Lt Colonel Cattermole told the Daily Express: "It was an honour to be visited by our Colonel-in-Chief in our new home. Her Majesty took great interest in the work the regiment is doing here in the UK, supporting UK resilience, and overseas on numerous training missions."
Earlier this month, the queen became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, surpassing her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, who served for 63 years and seven months.
Acknowledging her record-breaking reign, the queen admitted "it is one to which I have never aspired".
But she added: "Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones – my own is no exception – but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness."
