Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II is expected to say a few words about being the longest-serving monarch this afternoon (09.09.15).
Her Majesty is on her way to Scotland by train accompanied by husband the Duke of Edinburgh and Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to open the new Borders Railway in Scotland where she will reflect on her record-breaking-reign however, she is reportedly not going to give a full speech.
A royal source said: "It won’t be a speech but there will be a formal moment, a few words in response to someone else."
They will travel on a brand new route, stopping at Newtongrange in Midlothian before arriving at their final destination, the Borders town of Tweedbank where the opening ceremony will be held.
Later today (09.09.15) the queen will precede the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
The exact moment the Queen passes Victoria’s milestone is not known as there is no precise time for the death of her father, George VI – who died in the early hours of February 6 1952.
