Prunella Scales can’t remember most of her 52-year marriage to Timothy West.
The ‘Fawlty Towers’ actress has been married to the former ‘EastEnders’ star since 1963 but sadly can’t share most of their memories with her husband because of her battle with Alzheimer’s.
Piers Morgan – whose interview with Timothy for his ‘Life Stories’ series will air next month – said: "He’s her main carer. He’s been utterly fantastic.
"But you could see total sadness etched on his face that they can’t now share all the stuff they have shared, because she can only remember parts of it."
Prunella – who has grown up children Samuel and Joseph with Timothy and is step-mother to his daughter Juliet – was in the audience during her husband’s interview with Piers but couldn’t remember a word of it just two hours later.
Piers explained: "Prunella was in the audience and Timothy wanted her there, yet he wanted to talk about her illness.
"He said, ‘Don’t worry because she won’t remember.’ Afterwards in the green room, she had no memory of it. It’s heartbreaking."
Piers added: "Timothy got very emotional about it. They’ve been married all those years and she has no recall of most of the marriage, so they can’t share moments."
