Fans calling for Cilla Black funeral to be televised

Fans are calling for Cilla Black’s funeral to be televised.

The showbiz icon passed away a fortnight ago after suffering a stroke at her Spanish villa and followers of the national treasure are now urging for her funeral next Thursday (20.08.15) in her home city of Liverpool to be shown on TV for mourners around the country to watch.

One fan named Binky Bowles-Balls wrote on Twitter: "Is ‘our Cilla’s’ funeral being televised?"

Another user with the username Ugly Betsy wrote: "I hope they televise the funeral for all of her fans."

While another added: "How about a semi state funeral as she was showbiz royalty? Our friends, who are big Cilla fans and both Scousers, said let’s name a street after her. I think that’s very touching and a great idea."

The 72-year-old ‘Surprise Surprise’ and ‘Blind Date’ host will be buried next to her mum and dad, John White and Priscilla Blythen, at St Mary’s Church in Woolton, Liverpool, which is the same venue where her marriage to her husband Bobby was blessed 46 years ago.

However, an ITV spokesperson has insisted the plans for the funeral – which is expected to be attended by stars such as Paul O’Grady, Christopher Biggins and Sir Cliff Richard – are out of their hands.

They told the Daily Star newspaper: "Arrangements for the funeral are a matter for the family."
