Sue Perkins cracks biscuit bowl

Sue Perkins cracked a biscuit bowl on the ‘Great British Bake Off’.

The host of the BBC One show nearly scuppered the chances of contestant Nadiya Hussain after she cracked the bowl-shaped biscuit only minutes before the Showstopper challenge ended.

Admitting to the mishap, she told judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood: "I just wrecked it. I literally can’t believe I did that and I’m mortified."

Last night’s (12.08.15) episode saw favourite Marie Campbell sent home, only a week after she received the ‘Star Baker’ award.

Speaking after leaving the competition, she said: "Every moment was a fabulous experience for me. Some grannies want to bungee jump, but for me it was always to get on Bake Off.

"The show has given me more confidence in my baking, and where Paul said my Madeira cake was perfect on the show, I just have to keep rewinding that bit on the tape! It has been a fantastic experience for me, and I have enjoyed it from beginning to end.

"I live in a small village and I am only now getting used to being recognised. It is a bit surreal, but I just have a bit of a giggle about it. The family are really proud."

And Marie – who came under fire for having professional training in patisserie – also admitted she was looking forward to watching the rest of the series.

She added: "Bakers are lovely people. I have made great friends with all the bakers and I will be watching them every Wednesday with a slice of my Madeira cake and a cup of tea in my hand."
