Britain’s Prince William’s helicopter reportedly sparked a security alert after a mobile phone app tracked his aircraft.
According to a claim by The Mail on Sunday newspaper, the application, which could be purchased for £2.99, followed the movements of the Duke of Cambridge as he left Cambridge Aiport, on his East Anglian air ambulance.
It was reported that journalists were able to show exactly where William was going and even posted photos of the Prince preparing to land.
It’s also believed if you paid more you were sent a text alert every time he uses the aircraft.
Air safety expert Christopher Yates doesn’t see it as "a problem" because "we don’t know from one day to the next if he’s going to be on board".
He told The Associated Press: "Most of the time when an air ambulance is called it appears on the scene, scoops someone up and disappears. If there were someone monitoring, the chance of them being there at the scene when he arrives is quite remote. And we don’t know from one day to the next if he’s going to be on board. So I don’t see a problem."
However, after it became a major risk, the app ‘flightradar24’ has since been stopped.
Buckingham Palace and The Metropolitan Police are yet to comment on the app.
