Paddy McGuinness is making Dragons’ Den-style sitcom

Paddy McGuinness is creating a sitcom based on ‘Dragons’ Den’.

The 41-year-old comedian got inspiration from the BBC business contest, as well as ‘The Apprentice’ for his new show about a hapless entrepreneur, and thinks he’s "qualified" because he watches the shows so often.

Paddy said: "You’re always looking for fresh ideas. Things like ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘Dragons’ Den’, no one has ever done anything with a character from that world.

"I watched a lot of ‘Dragons’ Den’, so I think I’m qualified."

The show will be about a failing businessman, who’s trying to keep his image up, and the ‘Phoenix Nights’ star insists "it’s looking really good".

Paddy told The Sun newspaper: "He has that image of being a successful business person but he’s actually got no money any more. It’s about him trying to keep that image going, but with the banker always trying to take his house and his cars. We’re developing it but it’s looking really good."

The ‘Take Me Out’ presenter hasn’t written a comedy series since starring alongside Peter Kay in ‘Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere’ – the spin-off of ‘Phoenix Nights’ – and claims it’s down to not having enough time. However, he isn’t ruling out another series of the cult TV show.

Paddy said: "When we did ‘Phoenix Nights’ the first time round we were all unemployed.

"To film a comedy show you’ve got to almost block out a year of your life. We’ll keep our fingers crossed."
