Phil Rudd arrested for breaching sentence

Former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been arrested for breaching his home detention sentence.

The 61-year-old musician was arrested in New Zealand on Saturday (18.07.15) – just nine days after he was sentenced to an eight-month home detention sentence for drug possession and making threats to kill – after allegedly breaking the terms of his sentence by consuming alcohol.

Phil made no plea following his arrest and will appear in Tauranga District court again in a fortnight, after his lawyer requested the case be remanded until August 3, according to Stuff.co.nz.

The troubled musician will now be forced to undergo random drug and alcohol testing while serving the remaining months of his sentence to ensure the incident is not repeated, after the extra condition was requested by a community probation officer.

The judge, Louis Bidois, granted Phil bail but insisted his sentence will be changed if he breaches it again.

His latest scrape with the law follows previous charges surrounding a plot he threatened to kill a former employee and a stash of marijuana and methamphetamine which was found in his home.

Rudd is not currently part of AC/DC and has not been invited to join them on their tour of New Zealand and Australia later this year.

Meanwhile his former bandmate Angus Young said Phil "won’t be able to come back" to the band following his recent troubles.

Asked if he could make a comeback, he said: "It would take a while. From where he’s at right now, he won’t be able to come back soon.

"We didn’t see that [criminal conviction] coming. Phil was kicked out of the band before, but you don’t realise what someone’s getting into at the time. Everyone was on board for the world tour, and then for ages it was very hard to get hold of Phil. The last time we saw him, which was during the tour for ‘Black Ice’, he seemed all right."
