Duchess raises £2,100 in auction

Britain’s Duchess of Cornwall has auctioned Andy Murray’s wristband for £2,100.

The duchess was watching the tennis player compete in his second-round straight-set victory against Robin Haase at Wimbledon when the signed wristband was thrown into the crowd and caught by All England Club chairman Philip Brook, who passed the item on to Camilla.

The anonymous auction winner made a last-minute bid at 12:27 today (13.07.15) to secure the item, just an hour and a half before the auction ended.

In the description of the piece, Her Royal Highness explained she had decided to sell the item to raise funds for the Royal Veterinary College Animal Care Trust, for which she has been a patron for the past decade.

The item description explained: "Used and match-worn, Andy Murray’s signed wristband from Wimbledon has been donated for auction by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to raise money for the Royal Veterinary College Animal Care Trust.

"The wristband landed with Her Royal Highness after being caught by Chairman of The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, Mr Philip Brook. The humorous exchange was captured by photographers and TV crews and The Duchess has decided to put it on eBay for fans all over the world in the hope that it will raise money for charity. It is safely kept at Clarence House, the London home of TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall."

As well as the wristband, the winning bidder will be given a certificate of authenticity from the chief executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club and Croquet Club, Richard Lewis, as well as a framed photograph of the moment it was thrown into the crowds.
