The Queen meets Britain’s most powerful woman Nicola Sturgeon

The Queen of England met with Nicola Sturgeon yesterday (01.07.15) as she was named Britain’s most powerful woman.

Her Majesty met with the SNP leader at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, where she’s residing for Holyrood week, celebrating Scottish culture, history and achievement.

The 44-year-old SNP leader beat the likes of Angelina Jolie, Anna Wintour and Caitlyn Jenner to come top of the power list of top 10 influential women put together by BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, after the Scottish party gained 56 MPs at Westminster, under her leadership.

On Monday (30.06.15), Queen Elizabeth was handed the keys to the city of Edinburgh for the week.

Joined by her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, the 89-year-old Queen attended the Ceremony of the Keys, which traditionally marks the start of her stay at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, her official residence in Scotland. Tradition dictates that, at the end of the week, Her Majesty will return the keys, entrusting their safekeeping to Edinburgh’s elected officials.

The Officer Commanding the guard of honour Major Alastair Colville said: "It is an honour to be asked to provide the Guard and formally welcome Her Majesty to Edinburgh.

"The fusiliers will take great pride in guarding her Majesty for the rest of the week."
