Bruno Tonioli wants same-sex Strictly Come Dancing couples

Bruno Tonioli thinks having same-sex couples on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ would be "fantastic".

The BBC judge is fully behind the suggestion of getting two men or two women dancing with each other on the show following recent discussions about whether the move should be brought in for the upcoming series.

He told BANG Showbiz: "I think it would be absolutely fantastic."

However, the 59-year-old choreographer insisted they should only introduce same-sex dancing pairings if it is appropriate for the celebrities who decide to star on the primetime competition.

Speaking at the new cast launch of ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’, he continued: "I think you’d have to find the right contestants, but absolutely. Two girls, two boys, why not?

"I have no idea because we don’t know until the actual cast is revealed to the general public in September. But I think it would be fantastic."

Bruno’s comments come just a fortnight after former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional James Jordan slammed the idea by saying it would be "wrong".

He said: "It’s wrong. I think they would lose so many viewers.

"If they want to, go and do their own competitions, but ballroom dancing is about a man dancing with a woman – that’s fact.

"I don’t think it would go down well. You can’t compare a man and a woman dancing with each other to two men dancing with each other, it’s stupid.

"The world is going crazy with this gender stuff at the moment."

‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ continues at Gielgud Theatre in London. For further information on the show visit http://www.curiousonstage.com/
