Coronation Street Fiz’s daughter’s to be diagnosed with cancer

‘Coronation Street’ star Jennie McAlpine will face her most heartbreaking storyline as her character Fiz Brown’s daughter is diagnosed with cancer.

Fiz’s 5-year-old daughter Hope will be hit with neuroblastoma – a rare form of cancer in young children, which develops in the nerve cells – which producers have "gone to great lengths to understand".

The TV insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Producers have gone to great lengths to understand as much about this cancer as possible. They want to portray accurately and sensitively what must be a very distressing time for parents and sufferers alike."

ITV bosses are said to have spoken with doctors and parents of children who have experience of supporting a loved one with the aggressive illness, and who have received help from the Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance charity.

The distressing storyline will feature some of the "most heart-wrenching" moments ever witnessed on the soap which first aired in 1960.

The source continued: "These will be some of the most heart-wrenching scenes ever seen on the show."

Meanwhile, Jennie, 31, recently returned to the series after giving birth to six-month-old son Albert, who’s blood was donated to the Anthony Nolan Trust at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester for a baby who needed a stem cell transplant.

The 30-year-old actress shared: "Albert got a little vest saying, ‘I’m a born lifesaver’. It’s amazing to think he could help save someone."
