Roger Moore leads tributes to Patrick Macnee

Sir Roger Moore has led tributes to late actor Patrick Macnee describing him as a "true gent".

The 87-year-old actor starred with Patrick in his last James Bond film ‘A View to a Kill’ and was very sad to hear of his death this week at the age of 93.

The 007 legend posted on Twitter: "So very sad to hear Pat MacNee has left us. We were mates from 1950s and I have so many happy memories of working with him. A true gent."

There has been an outpouring of love for Patrick since the news of his passing broke with many people fondly remembering his iconic role as secret agent John Steed in the 1960s television series ‘The Avengers’.

Morgan Fairchild, who starred alongside both Patrick and the late Sir Christopher Lee in ‘Sherlock Holmes and the Leading Lady’, said she was "honoured" to work with him.

She paid tribute to both stars in her tweet, which read: "Honoured to work w Patrick Macnee. Marvelous, witty, kind charming man! Did Sherlock Homes w him & ChristopherLee (sic)"

‘The Kumars at No.42’ comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar described Patrick as the "Epitome of the British Gent".

He tweeted: "Sanjeev #RIP Patrick Mcnee. The Avengers also warm & wonderful foil to @sirrogermoore in several films & #SpinalTap Epitome of the British Gent (sic)."

And ‘Doctor Who’ scriptwriter Paul Cornell described him as "subtle, "wry" and "funny on so many levels".

His twitter post read: "Patrick Macnee’s work was subtle, wry, funny on so many levels. He could lead a cast, he could hang back to let Diana Rigg be Diana Rigg (sic)."

Patrick died of a "natural death" besides his family at his home in Rancho Mirage, California, and he is survived by his children and one grandson.
