Prince Harry to pursue conservation passion in Africa

Britain’s Prince Harry plans to pursue his "passion" for conservation in Africa.

The 30-year-old royal will spend three months in Africa and hopes to use his trip to learn more about conserving animals on the continent, and will be in Namibia for some time to pay special attention to the endangered black rhino, after hearing about the work done by the Save the Rhino Trust and the Nature Conservancy.

A source said: "Harry is very interested in conservation and he wants to learn more about it. It’s a passion he shares with his father and his brother and he’s so pleased to have the opportunity to see the work of a number of organizations and charities firsthand."

A royal insider added to Vanity Fair magazine: "Harry has chosen much of the itinerary himself. He has been very hands-on, and Namibia is one of the places he will be going over the three months."

Harry is expected to also travel to Botswana, where Tusk, a charity his brother Prince William works closely with, runs a number of research schemes.

He is also planning to shadow a South African vet and work with national park rangers, and is very much looking forward to the trip.

He said recently: "That could be anything to do with tracking poachers, jumping on a vehicle early in the morning, darting elephants, darting lions. It’s going to be amazing."
