Sir Roger Moore is a fan of the phrase "Bond crumpet".
The 87-year-old actor – who starred as British secret agent James Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985 – has revealed he’d like to rename Bond girls, even though he risks incurring the wrath of social media users.
He said: "Bond female doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it? Bond lady, perhaps? Or what about … Bond crumpet?!
"Oh, Bond crumpet will get an angry brigade going on Twitter!"
The London-born actor thinks political correctness has gotten out of hand and is comfortable calling Bond girls – who recently include the likes of Eva Green and Gemma Arterton – "Bond crumpet".
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "When I was brought up, we were always boys and girls, and men and women. You would stand up for a lady when she came into a room – but you get called a sexist pig if you show manners like that now.
"The problem is that leading ladies get called all kinds of things today. But a Bond girl was always a Bond girl. The rest – the Bond female, Bond lady – doesn’t sound right. But I do like Bond crumpet!"
