Britain’s Duchess of Cornwall has bought a racehorse.
The 67-year-old royal has become a part owner of six-year-old mare Mollyanna after falling in love with the animal when it won the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall Mares Maiden Hurdle race at Sligo during her and her husband, the Prince of Wales’ official visit to Ireland last month.
The horse, which is valued at approximately £25,000, is the latest addition to Duchess Camilla’s stable of National Hunt runners.
Clarence House has confirmed that Mollyanna is now part-owned by the Duchess but refused to reveal who the other owners are.
The mare – which was purchased from Irish owner Bernard Cloney – is said to have been sent to trainer Jamie Snowden in Lambourn, Berkshire, the Daily Express newspaper reports.
While Prince Charles, 66, has bought horses for flat racing with his wife in the past, he leaves National Hunt racing – which requires horses to jump over fences and ditches – to her.
Camilla is said to have replaced the late Queen Mother as the royal family’s main supporter of jump racing while the Queen herself is still a keen flat racing enthusiast and is expected to attend Royal Ascot next week.
