Paul Feig voices support for female-led comedies

Paul Feig has insisted "funny women can make money".

The 52-year-old director – who helmed new action comedy film ‘Spy’, which stars Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham and Rose Byrne, and the 2011 hit ‘Bridesmaids’ – has reiterated his view that female-led comedies can be profitable.

He told the Guardian newspaper: "’Bridesmaids’ showed people that movies starring a lot of women, funny women can make money. I think it’s easy for a while to go, you know, ‘Maybe it was just a fluke’. It throws me that they’re so slow on the uptake.

"Again, it’s been proven as ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ has just made a bazillion dollars. So I just hope that we can end the debate and just have more projects."

Meanwhile, Paul recently revealed the crucial role swearing played in his new movie.

He shared: "Swearing is an art form and I had some really good minds on it. People were always giving me jokes and coming up with different creative ways to do it.

"When we first started (filming) I said to Jason (Statham), ‘Say f**k here!’ and he goes, ‘Oh, we can swear?’ Once I said yes they could swear then the floodgates just opened. He’s another amazing swearer and who knew Rose Byrne would be such a great swearer?"
