Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has expressed her joy over the birth of Princess Charlotte.
The 89-year-old monarch held a garden party on the lawns of London’s Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (12.05.15) where she told guests of her delight at the new arrival, born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on 2 May.
One guest, Holocaust survivor and charity worker Susan Pollack, 84, chatted to Her Royal Highness, recalling: "I told her I am so happy at the arrival of the new baby. I said congratulations, and she said ‘Yes, we love to have another girl’."
And Susan’s daughter Sandra said the Queen was particularly pleased about the royal baby being a girl, as she is the first princess to be born into the family in 25 years.
She added: "She said how pleased she was to have another great-granddaughter in particular."
Approximately 8,000 guests attended the event, where they were treated to 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake.
As well as the Queen – who was dressed in a pastel yellow hat and summer coat – Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and his wife Sophie attended the party.
