Hugh Jackman announces plan to quit as Wolverine

‘Wolverine 3’ will mark the last time Hugh Jackman appears in the role.

The 46-year-old actor – who’s starred in numerous ‘X-Men’ films – has confirmed the much-anticipated movie will be the last time he plays the iconic Marvel character in 2017.

He told The Dr Oz Show: "It felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it

"I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."

The news had been widely expected after, in March, Hugh posted a cryptic message on Instagram that read: "WOLVERINE… ONE LAST TIME. (sic)"

The announcement comes shortly after Hugh spoke about his battle against skin cancer, saying it is "not as scary" as he initially feared.

The Australian has had three surgeries on his nose since being diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma in 2013 and he’s insisted he isn’t worried about having to manage the condition for the rest of his life.

Hugh said: "It’s always a bit of a shock just hearing the word ‘cancer’. Being an Australian it’s a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it.

"It’s not as scary as I first thought, as long as you take care of it."
