Amanda Bynes reached a plea deal in her driving under the influence (DUI) case yesterday (24.02.14).
The ‘Hairspray’ actress – who has recently been treated for schizophrenia – faced the charges from 2012, but her lawyer managed to get the DUI charge dropped so she could plead no contest to a lesser charge of alcohol-related reckless driving.
Although she has escaped jail and a large fine, Amanda will now have to undergo three years of probation and must attend three months of alcohol education classes.
Her lawyer, Richard Hutton, told newspaper The New York Daily News: "She’s doing very well. This case took some unexpected turns, but it’s resolved. Everything is going just like it should."
Amanda completed psychiatric treatment for both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in December and is now living with her parents in Thousand Oaks, California, under a mental health conservatorship.
The 27-year-old star’s mother, Lynn Bynes, is her temporary conservator – meaning she has control of Amanda’s personal and financial affairs – and a judge overseeing her conservator duties recently praised her for her daughter’s continued progress during a hearing.
A source recently told how Amanda’s parents are thrilled her life is more stable, but don’t think she is ready to move out of their home yet, even though she is eager to get her own place.
The insider said: "It’s not likely she will be moving out of their house for at least the next several months."
