Queen Elizabeth celebrates birth in pink

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the birth of her great-granddaughter by wearing pink.

The 89-year-old monarch was spotted in Richmond, North Yorkshire, where she was attending a royal engagement, and sported a feminine rose-coloured soft wool coat and silk-wool Karl Ludwig dress in honour of the newborn baby, who was delivered by Duchess Catherine at 8.34am BST today (02.05.15) at St Mary’s Hospital in London.

The Queen – who was attending a military parade to mark the new regiment The Royal Lancers – also wore an Angela Kelly hat and a Queen’s Royal Lancers brooch for the occasion, where she looked in good spirits thanks to the news of the family birth.

Announcing the news of the couple’s latest addition, Kensington Palace said: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am.

"The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales & The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & members of both families have been informed

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge’s father, Prince Charles, and his wife Duchess Camilla, were told of the news while at his Highgrove estate, where they said they were "absolutely delighted" about the news.

The couple have since left the hospital with their newborn daughter after a visit from their 21-month-old son Prince George, and will now spend the night at Kensington Palace.
