Queen Elizabeth wants footman


Britain’s Queen Elizabeth is seeking a £15,000-a-year footman.

The "exciting role" in the "unique environment" of Buckingham Palace will see the successful applicant receive guests by acting as the "welcoming face" of the monarch’s official residence by receiving guests and providing front-of-house service.

The live-in position also includes other duties, such as cleaning the silverware and coordinating luggage arrivals, and the post holder will also be asked to serve in other royal residencies, including the queen’s Scottish residences, Balmoral Castle – where she spends two months every summer – and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The advertisement states: "You will be required to spend three months living and working away from London."

According to the job advertisement, the ideal candidate will be "hard-working" and have a "passion for delivering excellent service" and an "eye for detail".

Though the job has a low basic salary, accommodation is provided in one of Buckingham Palace’s 148 staff bedrooms and meals are also included.

In addition, the position offers 33 days holiday, a pension and benefits package and the use of recreational facilities.

The deadline for applications in Monday 4 May.

Around 400 people are currently employed by the queen, with approximately £19 million a year spent on staff salaries.
