Hayley Tamaddon leaving Coronation Street this year

Hayley Tamaddon is to leave ‘Coronation Street’ later this year.

The 38-year-old actress, who plays Andrea Beckett on the ITV soap, is set to leave the famous cobbles later this year after staying for two years despite having originally signed up for just three months.

She said: "I will be so lad to leave, I have had the best two years of my life here. It really is one big family. Everyone looks out for each other and I’ve made some incredible friends."

Andrea will depart Weatherfield as part of a plot described as "central" to the soap’s upcoming live episode in September.

Producer Stuart Blackburn shared: "Hayley has brought real magic to the Corrie cobbles – funny, energetic, totally professional and a joy to be around as a friend and colleague alike, she’ll be sorely missed and I’d simply like to wish her all the very best for the future."

Although Hayley is preparing to bid farewell to her co-stars in the summer, ‘Corrie’ bosses are said to be leaving her character’s exit open for a possible return.

According to Radio Times magazine, the former ‘Emmerdale’ actress added: "I am excited about my exit storyline and the fact that is part of the live episode. Corrie has given me a great platform to hopefully go on to work on other dramas but I’d never rule out a return to Weatherfield as I love it so much.

"I am looking forward to what the future holds but in the meantime there is still plenty more to be done here."

The former ‘Dancing on Ice’ star has since taken to her Twitter account to thank fans for their "kind words" following the announcement.

She wrote: "Sat here reading all your lovely tweets with tears in my eyes. Thank you for your kind words guys. Xxx (sic)"
