Mark Owen wants to be a judge on The X Factor

Mark Owen wants to be a judge on ‘The X Factor’.

The 43-year-old star has revealed he’d like to follow in the footsteps of his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow by signing up for a job on the ITV singing competition.

Asked if rumours a member of Take That is set to join the panel following rumours Mel B has been sacked, he said: "I’ve not had a call yet, but my phone’s on!!"

And while Gary remained silent on whether he is set to make a return to the show after replacing head judge and boss Simon Cowell from 2011 to 2013, Howard Donald claimed producers wouldn’t consider him "worthy" of "judging other people singing".

Speaking to Stu Tolan for his ‘In:Demand’ radio show on Key 103, he said: "I’m not worthy, I’m not worthy of doing stuff like that."

Mel B – who joined the show last year alongside returning judges Simon, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Louis Walsh – is rumoured to have been axed as part of a shake-up announced by producers.

Meanwhile, Simon – who has hinted he and Cheryl will return to the judging panel later this year – is reportedly keen for ‘The Voice’ mentor Rita Ora to join them.

A source said previously: "It’s going to be very interesting to see how this all pans out but it could get extremely messy.

"It’s a real battle of wills. ITV see ‘X Factor’ as vastly superior to ‘The Voice’. They don’t want a judge who they see as a cast-off. As far as they are concerned, Rita’s now out of the picture.

"Simon and Syco are determined to push ahead with their plan and still think they can sign her."
