Jemima West: An actress was stung by a scorpion on Indian Summers set

Jemima West has revealed an actress was stung by a scorpion on the set of ‘Indian Summers’.

The 27-year-old star, who plays Alice Whelan in the Channel 4 drama, has confessed that while there were perks to filming in Malaysia, there were also a lot of risks.

Jemima exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "There were of course all the tropical insects and you have to get used to seeing cockroaches the size of a fist and big mosquitos and unfortunately a few caught Dengue fever and that wasn’t fun.

"One of the actresses got stung by a scorpion, and then of course we had the monkeys visiting every day on set so you have to sort of adapt to the new way of life."

However, the ‘Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ actress admits it did sometimes feel like she was on holiday, as she’d never visited the region before.

She explained: "At first it seems like a holiday and then you realise you have to work in the heat but it does help to know that you can go swimming in the morning and you can go for wonderful walks and then when you have time off that you can get on a plane and go travelling.

"So that was brilliant, and it was my first time in South East Asia so I got to travel a lot. I went to Japan and Cambodia, Thailand … And that was great."

‘Indian Summers’ is available on DVD now, courtesy of RLJ Entertainment.
