Stevie McCorie had to stop a gig once because he was scared of a wasp.
The ‘Voice UK’ winner has a phobia of the stinging insects, and during a gig on Glasgow’s Royal Concert hall steps last week he was besieged by a buzzing bug.
The wasp was trying to fly into his mouth and although he tried to carry on performing he had to stop playing his guitar and try and swat the insect away.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Stevie said: "I was singing and playing the guitar and I just stopped, trying to knock the wasp away. I just got caught up in the moment of the wasp, and suddenly realised there were about 1,000 people watching me, and I just said, ‘I’m really sorry, I’m scared of wasps,’ and then just started the song again. I’m really terrified of wasps, I was like, ‘There’s no way that’s going in my mouth!’ "
The 30-year-old singer admits it’s been "scary" to have such big crowds coming out to see him on his homecoming tour, performing songs including his current single ‘Lost Stars’ – which is available to download now.
However he’s adamant that he won’t "get carried away" with the instant fame he’s got from winning ‘The Voice UK’.
He said: "People were getting crushed in the crowds at Glasgow, watching me perform and trying to get to me. It was like ‘The Walking Dead’. It was pretty scary at one point. I don’t let that get to me though, because it’s all part of the TV show, and what matters ultimately to me is people who buy my album. I won’t get carried away with the shot of fame that I’ve got. I know it will stop and calm down, and I want to keep my feet on the ground, because then I won’t get let down if everything fails."
