Britain’s Catherine Duchess of Cambridge is planning a long maternity leave.
The 33-year-old royal is expected to give birth to her second child later this month, and is hoping to excuse herself from her royal engagements for several months after the child is born in an attempt to bond with the tot.
After giving birth to Prince George in July 2013, she returned to royal duty less than two months later, but doesn’t want to rush back to work and miss out on precious time with her and Prince William’s second child.
A source told PEOPLE magazine: "She felt she came back too soon last time.
"She wants to have that [family] and enjoy it with George and the new baby."
According to the magazine, the duchess is keen to "fully enjoy the bonding experience" with the newborn baby, as well as 20-month-old George, and hopes their home of Anmer Hall on the royal Sandringham estate will be the perfect place to do so, especially as it is so close to where William will be working as an air ambulance pilot once he finishes his training in the summer.
When the duchess does return to work, she is expected to continue to raise awareness of the difficulties facing vulnerable children and families suffering with mental health issues, as she has recently been vocal about the topic.
