Duke of Kent discharged from hospital

Britain’s Duke of Kent has been discharged from hospital.

The royal was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Monday (06.04.15) after sustaining a hip injury but was spotted leaving the medical facility on Tuesday evening (07.04.15) with a walking stick after spending a night under observation.

Buckingham Palace confirmed His Royal Highness Prince Edward’s injury, saying: "The Duke of Kent was admitted on Monday to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was successfully treated for a dislocated hip."

The 79-year-old duke suffered the injury during an Easter stay at his cousin, Queen Elizabeth II’s, Balmoral estate in Scotland.

The Palace has not yet commented on his condition, but it seems likely his planned royal engagements including an evening reception at St James’s Palace in London next Monday (13.04.15) will go ahead as planned.

Back in 2013, the prince – who is the son of Prince George, who died when Edward was just six – suffered a "mild stroke" but returned to his busy schedule of engagements just a few weeks later.

The duke – who has three children; George, Earl of St Andrews, 52, Lady Helen Taylor, 50, and Lord Nicholas Windsor, 44 – lives with his wife, Katharine Duchess of Kent, at Wren House in Kensington Palace, London.
